Ich habe (verzweifelt) versucht, die Angst zu unterdrücken. Doch was passiert, wenn wir unsere Emotionen einfach wegsperren wollen? Studien wie die von Levitt et al. (2004) zeigen, dass dieses Unterdrücken die Symptome nicht mildert, sondern verstärkt – ähnlich wie ein Wasserball, den man unter Wasser drückt und der dann mit umso mehr Geschwindigkeit nach oben schnellt.</p>
<p>Statt gegen die Angst zu kämpfen, könnte Akzeptanz der Schlüssel sein. Eifert und Heffner (2003) haben eindrucksvoll bewiesen, dass Akzeptanzstrategien weitaus effektiver sind als verzweifelte Kontrollversuche, um panikartige Symptome zu lindern.</p>
<p>Fehler Nummer zwei war die gigantische Selbstaufmerksamkeit. Die Metakognitive Therapie (MCT) betont, dass übermäßige Selbstfokussierung soziale Ängste erst richtig aufblühen lässt. Nordahl et al. (2018) fanden heraus, dass MCT, die uns lehrt, den Blick von unserem Inneren abzuwenden und stattdessen die Außenwelt wahrzunehmen, bei Angststörungen beeindruckende Erfolge zeigt.<br />
Die Lösung? Statt sich in endlosen Gedankenschleifen zu verlieren, lieber die Aufmerksamkeit auf die spannende Welt um uns herum lenken.</p>

(2018) fanden heraus, dass das Begrenzen der Nutzung von Social Media zu signifikant weniger Einsamkeit und Depressionen führte. In einer ähnlichen Untersuchung berichteten Lambert et al. (2022), dass bereits eine einwöchige Pause von Social Media das Wohlbefinden steigern und Ängste reduzieren könnte. Allerdings ist unklar, ob diese Effekte langfristig anhalten oder ob sie lediglich kurzfristige Verbesserungen darstellen.</p>
<p>Brown und Kuss (2020) untersuchten speziell die Rolle der Angst, etwas zu verpassen (FOMO), und fanden heraus, dass diese nach einigen Tagen ohne soziale Medien deutlich abnimmt. Eine weitere Studie von Smith et al. (2024) zeigte, dass junge Frauen nach einer Social-Media-Auszeit Verbesserungen im Selbstwertgefühl und Körperbild berichteten&#8230; Ist ein &#8222;Social Media Detox&#8220; also eine der besten Interventionen für unsere Lebensfreude, die man durchführen kann? Die überwiegende Mehrheit würde diese Frage mit &#8222;Entspannung!&#8220; beantworten. Die bahnbrechende Studie von Alison Wood Brooks aus dem Jahr 2014 legt jedoch nahe, dass es oft vorteilhafter ist, Angst als Aufregung zu interpretieren, anstatt sich zwanghaft zu beruhigen. Dies liegt daran, dass der Wechsel von einem Zustand hoher Erregung (Angst) zu einem Zustand niedriger Erregung (Ruhe) schwer zu erreichen ist. Wenn man jedoch Angst als Aufregung umdeutet, bleibt man in einem Zustand hoher Erregung, was die Leistung in stressigen Situationen verbessern kann. Diese Reinterpretation kann zu einer positiveren Einstellung und gesteigerten Motivation führen, da Aufregung als produktiv und energiereich empfunden wird, während Angst oft als lähmend wirkt.<br />

Diese virtuellen Umgebungen werden mithilfe von computergenerierten Simulationen und 3D-Modellen erstellt und können verschiedene soziale Szenarien wie öffentliche Reden, Bewerbungsgespräche oder Smalltalk-Situationen abbilden.</p>
<p>Ein entscheidender Aspekt der VR-Therapie ist die individuelle Anpassung an den Patienten. Therapeuten können die Intensität der sozialen Situationen kontrollieren und an die spezifischen Bedürfnisse und Fortschritte jedes Einzelnen anpassen. Dadurch kann die Therapie sowohl für Menschen mit leichter sozialer Angst als auch für solche mit schwereren Formen der Störung effektiv sein.</p>
<p>Darüber hinaus ermöglicht VR-Therapie eine kontrollierte Exposition gegenüber den Angst auslösenden Reizen. Indem Patienten schrittweise schwierigere Situationen durchlaufen, können sie lernen, mit ihrer Angst umzugehen und Bewältigungsstrategien zu entwickeln. Die immersive Natur der virtuellen Realität erleichtert es den Patienten, sich in die Situation einzufühlen und emotionale Reaktionen zu erleben, ähnlich wie in der realen Welt. Dies fördert das Lernen und die Anwendung von Bewältigungstechniken in einem sichereren Umfeld.</p>

Typischerweise haben Menschen mit sozialer Angststörung Angst davor, negativ beurteilt oder abgelehnt zu werden, peinliche oder unangenehme Situationen zu erleben oder sich in einer Weise zu verhalten, die von anderen als unangemessen empfunden werden könnte.</p>
<p>Die Symptome einer sozialen Angststörung können körperlicher Natur sein, wie beispielsweise Zittern, Erröten oder Schwitzen, oder psychischer Natur, wie beispielsweise übermäßiges Grübeln oder das Gefühl, dass man beobachtet oder bewertet wird. Menschen mit sozialer Angststörung können Schwierigkeiten haben, sich in sozialen Situationen zu engagieren oder Freundschaften zu schließen. Die Angst kann so stark sein, dass sie zu Vermeidungsverhalten führt, was die betroffene Person in ihrem täglichen Leben einschränken kann.</p>
