In seltenen Fällen kommen jedoch auch psychologische Techniken zum Einsatz. So verwendete der britische Mentalist Derren Brown in dem obigen Video höchstwahrscheinlich eine Kombination aus Priming und Lippenlesen:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Lippenlesen:</strong> Gute Mentalisten sind in der Lage, anhand winziger Verformungen der Lippen zu erkennen, an welches Wort eine Person gerade denkt. Dies ist allerdings nur dann möglich, wenn die andere Person das Wort in Gedanken immer wieder laut sagt. Daher betont Derren Brown immer wieder: Say it in your mind. Say it!&#8220;</li>
<li><strong>Priming:</strong> Woran wir gerade denken, kann durch Priming beeinflusst werden. Dabei werden semantische Strukturen in unserem Gehirn geradezu &#8222;vorgeglüht&#8220;. Häufig sind wir uns dessen überhaupt nicht bewusst. Wenn jemand zu uns sagt, denke bitte an das Wort Haus, dann sind in unserem Gehirn die Neuronen für das Wort &#8222;Maus&#8220; auch minimal aktiviert, weil wir häufig den Reim &#8222;Haus-&gt;Maus&#8220; gehört haben. Im Video betont Derren Brown in der entscheidenden Phase: &#8222;Think of someone else.&#8220; Daraus wird dann &#8222;Orson Welles&#8220;.</li>
</ol>
<p>Sobald der Mentalist an den Lippenbewegungen erkennt, dass der Proband wohl gerade tatsächlich an Orson Welles denkt, bittet er ihn, bei genau diesem Namen zu bleiben.</p>
<p><strong>Wichtige Anmerkungen:</strong><br />
1. Man sollte jedoch auch bedenken, dass wir als Zuschauer nicht erfahren welche Vorbereitung zu diesem Kunststück stattgefunden hat. D.h. unter Umständen wurden die Anwesenden Personen zuvor darauf hingewiesen, dass die gesuchte Person eine von 10 möglichen Personen sei (z.B. Woody Allen, Orson Welles, Marie Curie, etc.). Dies hätte dem Mentalisten die Arbeit enorm erleichtert.</p>
<p>2. Es ist nicht völlig auszuschließen, dass diese Kunststück nicht doch auf einen Zaubertrick zurückzuführen ist. Es könnte durchaus sein, dass Helfer das verschleierte Bild im letzten Moment (über eine Öffnung in der Wand) einfach ausgetauscht haben.</p>
