Seit Jahrzehnten suchen Wissenschaftler nach Unterschieden in den Körpern von depressiven und gesunden Menschen. Viele Jahre blieb der erhoffte Durchbruch jedoch aus. Eine Flut neuerer Forschungsarbeiten liefert jedoch Grund zur Hoffnung. Denn die aktuell heißeste Spur lautet: Depressionen könnten durch Entzündungen (inflammations) im Körper hervorgerufen werden. Auch wenn die Kausalfrage noch nicht gänzlich geklärt ist, könnte dies in den nächsten Jahren zu vielversprechenden neuen Therapieansätzen führen. Aber einiges lässt sich auch jetzt schon umsetzen…
